Welcome to 2009!

Wow, so it’s been a while. I’ll be the first to admit that I was totally burned out at the end of the ‘08 season but I feel the juices starting to flow again and I decided to post a couple of quick thoughts as we get ready for our 12th season here in the AFA.
Last year I was in another league that was run through ESPN’s service. Overall, I didn’t think it was bad; it definitely lacked some of the intuitive things here and there that we’ve all grown accustomed to at our current “home” but certainly not bad by any means. I think we’ve all grown accustomed to the interface and the easy navigability. ESPN’s is clunkier and I don’t always care for their presentation. The big thing it’s got going for it is that it’s FREE! So, the question is, do we jump away from Sportsline nd save $130 and move to a service that is decent though not as good (in my opinion) that is free? Heck, this might all be for naught as perhaps CBS will stop gouging people so much coin for their service when their main competitor is giving away the service. I’ll be monitoring the situation to see if this is the case. I’m not holding my breath but hope springs eternal.

Moving on, I had a couple of other issues that I had typed up a few months ago, but the blog ate the post so now I don’t remember what the issues were. I think it might have been a couple of point tweaking proposals and maybe a rule change or two but I’m drawing a blank here. Everyone is of course welcome to make suggestions and thoughts as to how we can make the league even better going into our 12th season.

UPDATE:  Your humble commissioner has spent some time looking around at various services this morning and is actually starting to become enamored with a couple, specifically a service called fleaflicker.com (http://www.fleaflicker.com).  They keep track of a lot of little things that I sort of dig.  And they’re free, which is good.  I’ll keep looking, though right now I’m thinking hard on ESPN, Yahoo and now this Fleaflicker.  Anybody else see anything they like?

  1. I like Sportsline, but if we have to switch, I say anything but ESPN.

    I hate those guys.
